The Faith & Politics Institute Welcomes Dan Keniry As New Board Chairman

Known for Bipartisan Congressional Pilgrimages, FPI Expanding Mission in 2017

WASHINGTON – The Faith and Politics Institute (FPI) today announced that Dan Keniry has been chosen as its new Board Chairman after former Chairman Rob Liberatore retired from that role. Mr. Keniry is currently the vice president and head of Federal Government Affairs for United Health Group, and has a background in federal government service in the legislative and executive branches. Previously, Mr. Keniry served President George W. Bush as Deputy Assistant to the President in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs after serving in leadership staff roles for House Republican leadership.

“Supporting the bipartisan mission of this respected organization is a tremendous honor,” said Keniry. “The Faith and Politics Institute’s work to help bridge partisan divides couldn’t be more important. Through inspiring and impactful events, our Board aims to create opportunities for members of Congress to unite around the American shared values that drew them to public service in the first place.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Dan as our new Board chairman. Having served as Vice Chair previously, Dan knows our mission well. His sterling reputation and extensive experience with the federal government make him an invaluable partner as we seek to expand our bipartisan work in new and exciting ways this year,” said President and CEO Joan Mooney, who previously served as a senior official in the Obama Administration after a 20-year career on Capitol Hill. “I want to thank Rob Liberatore for his 8 years of principled leadership as Chair, especially during the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday pilgrimage in 2015. We are grateful that he will continue his service on the board.”

U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) said, “Dan exemplifies the values of the Faith and Politics Institute and its mission to cultivate mutual respect and a sincere dialogue among our political leaders. I am proud to call him a friend and applaud the decision to name him Chair of the Board.”

U.S. Representative and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD) said, “Congratulations to Dan Keniry on his selection to serve as the Board Chairman of this meaningful organization. This is an important job, and Dan brings to it an understanding that our nation’s leaders all share a commitment to serve others. Under Dan and Joan’s leadership, I know that The Faith & Politics Institute will continue to play a significant role in facilitating honest conversation and mutual respect among members of Congress.”

Andy Card, former White House Chief of Staff said, “During his time in the White House, Dan was someone I could always count on to bring people together to get the job the done. I am thrilled that he is bringing that valuable experience to the important mission of The Faith and Politics Institute.”

Mr. Keniry will lead a prestigious board of directors committed to advancing FPI’s bipartisan work. The Faith and Politics Institute is celebrating 25 years of bringing leaders together for the good of our nation through congressional pilgrimages, forums and dialogues that inspire leaders in public service. Described by some members as one of the most valuable experiences of their time in Congress, the bipartisan pilgrimages offer opportunities for engaged and reflective dialogue that bridges divides across lines of ideology, race, and faith.
