Providence shined grace upon us as we were led on tours of the Congressional Cemetery. The Faith & Politics Institute worked with the Cemetery to put on a tour of civil rights heroes from throughout America’s history. Ranging from women’s rights workers to abolitionists to Native American rights’ advocates to gay rights in the military, the evening’s tours were engaging and experiential as we walked from gravesite to gravesite.

On Thursday, July 28th, The Faith & Politics Institute co-sponsored a panel discussion entitled Muslims in America. Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN) served as the honorary congressional host. The panel discussed what it meant to be a Muslim in America especially focusing on the use of pop culture in spreading the image of Muslims daily life. Featured on the panel were Wajahat Ali, a playwright and lawyer; Lena Kahn, an award winning filmmaker; and Hussein Rashid, an activist, academic and lecturer.
