Best-selling author, Robert Fulghum (All I Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten) was the featured speaker at the 2010 Capps Emerson Memorial Lecture.

On Wednesday, September 22nd, we held our 11th annual Capps-Emerson Memorial Lecture. Our guest speaker was the best-selling author Robert Fulghum who is perhaps best known for his book All I Ever Really Needed to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten. Representatives Lois Capps and Jo Ann Emerson co-hosted the event, which seeks to honor the work and memory of their respective husbands whose Congressional roles they now fulfill. The event was also co-sponsored by the Walter H. Capps Center for the Study of Ethics, Religion, and Public Life. Mr. Fulghum led all of us who were present through down-to-earth stories that illuminated truths both relatable and challenging. Whether it was through narration or through using imaginative Powerpoint slides, Mr. Fulghum’s insightful creativity provided sometimes irreverent, sometimes self-incriminating, but always inspiring glimpses of the wisdom and knowledge gained through everyday life experiences. If you would like to view some of Mr. Fulghum’s storytelling, feel free to check out our YouTube page for excerpts.
